Grandfather attempts suicide after allegedly killing son, grandson

Posted: Updated:

An 82-year-old man attempted suicide after allegedly killing his son and grandson at a home in Fairview.

Fairview police say Paul Alexander Sr. tried to kill himself Friday afternoon after police suspected him in the double murder of his son Paul Alexander Tanner Jr., 59, and grandson Ryan Dawson Tanner, 23.

Earlier in the day, they were found dead at the expansive estate.

Police say the Tanner Jr.'s estranged wife, who's also the grandson's mother, stopped by the house after she hadn't been able to reach them.

Police say she could see somebody inside and rushed to a neighbor's house to call police.

Police say Tanner Jr. was found in a downstairs bedroom and his son was in an upstairs bedroom. They appeared to have been shot in the head, and had been dead for several days.

Police tracked Paul Alexander Sr. to the Courtyard Marriott in Addison. They found him unresponsive in a hotel room.

Sources tell FOX 4 it appears he tried to take his own life by swallowing several pills.

Fairview police and Collin County Sheriff's officials are investigating the double murder. There is no known motive at this time.
