The Dallas Citizens Council has endorsed the efforts by Dallas Superintendent of Schools Mike Miles to weed out bad principals.
The powerful group of business and civic leaders made the endorsement on Saturday even with fierce resistance from some in the community. Some of the loudest criticisms have come from Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, who has said that Miles has no idea how to run a school district. Price has even said Miles should go back to Colorado, where he worked before moving to Dallas.
A statement from the Dallas Citizens Council notes the following:
"WE FEEL IT IS IMPORTANT AT THIS TIME, RECOGNIZING THAT CONTROVERSY ALWAYS SURROUNDS CHANGE, THAT THOSE OF US IN THE BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP POSITIONS ARE ON RECORD SHOWING OUR SUPPORT FOR THE VERY DIFFICULT CHANGES RECOMMENDED BY SUPERINTENDENT MILES."
