PHOENIX -

A man who was wanted for kidnapping and barricaded himself up inside of a Phoenix home was found dead from a suicide, nearly 12 hours after an Amber Alert was issued for his 3-year-old child.

Police say that 32-year-old Israel Celis Sr. sexually assaulted the mother of his child at gunpoint Monday evening in a hotel room in the 8300 block of W. Lynwood. He duct taped her, then grabbed his son and took off, according to police.

In a joint effort with Tolleson and Phoenix Police and U.S. Marshals, Celis was located at an address near 91st Ave and Camelback late Monday night. He refused to surrender to officers, and the negotiations continued throughout the night and morning.

During negotiations, there were a number of people inside the home -- Celis' son, a 9-year-old male, a 13-year-old female, 4 adult women, and an adult male. Over the course of the morning, 2 adult females escaped through a window, a third adult was released, and later, Celis' son and the 13-year-old child were let out about 7 a.m.

They were not hurt.

About 8 a.m., officers began hearing gunshots coming from the home. Officers employed an armored truck to breach the front of the home.

They extracted the adult male victim from the house. He suffered a non-life threatening injury.

As they continued to advance into the home, Celis allegedly fired upon officers. Officers used the armored truck as cover and fired rounds at the suspect. They drove nearly entirely into the house.

Celis retreated to a bedroom with the 9-year-old boy and 20-year-old female, Sgt. Steve Martos said. They continued negotiations for another 2 hours. Finally, police heard gunshots and made entry. They extracted the 9-year-old and 20-year-old and found the suspect dead.

Authorities say Celis had apparently shot himself. The other victims received minor injuries.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
