Restaurant reopens after bad reality TV experience

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

A Scottsdale restaurant is trying to repair its image after a disastrous appearance on the FOX TV show Kitchen Nightmares. It led to a worldwide backlash.

There was hate mail, threats, and nasty messages on Facebook from as far away as Europe.

People just couldn't believe how they treated their customers and employees. But now, they're trying to take their first step at redemption.

Amy's hired a well-known public relations firm to orchestrate its grand re-opening. Supposedly the restaurant was overwhelmed with reservation requests, due to all the drama surrounding the show.

Amy on Kitchen Nightmares: "Listen to me when I'm talking to you. Don't walk away from me, you don't work here anymore. Ok, don't start crying, why are you behaving like this? Oh my God!"

The show was unforgettable. For the first time ever, Gordon Ramsay walked out. But tonight, with security guards at the ready, Amy's Bakery is back.

"I was expecting to see Amy come out or Samy screaming yelling. We didn't see too much of that. Samy seemed pretty nice," says guest Allison Lunsford.

"The staff kind of seemed on edge and Samy was running around like a madman," says Desma Xayarath.

As for the food?

"It was good. I liked it." says Lunsford. "The dessert was ok."

"It tasted like it was frozen and defrosted. I got the garlic chicken pizza and the chicken tasted frozen," says Xayarath.

Customers who came looking for drama left disappointed.

"I wanted it to be a circus. I think that is all planned, a genius marketing campaign that has gone every way in their direction," says Ricky Potts.

With onlookers peering in and security guards waiting outside, the dining experience seemed a little strange.

"What I think is ridiculous about it is that there are there are so many people out there that are leaving reviews on Yelp that haven't been there. They don't live in Arizona, they haven't been to the restaurant and they are leaving all these hateful reviews," says Sheryl Hugill.

On Kitchen Nightmares, everyone was stunned to learn that the wait staff never saw any of the tips. But things seemed to have changed.

"We asked the servers first if they were going to get them and they said they all split it so that is why we tipped," says Lunsford.

The restaurant wouldn't allow any cameras inside. In fact media was banished to the street.

Normally I wouldn't do this, but one of the people we talked offered me a slice of pizza that she didn't like, and I gave it a try. It wasn't bad – but then you never really have pizza you don't like, right?
