ORLAND PARK, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

Several military families were honored in Orland Park on Friday, and got to meet country music superstar Tim McGraw. Five of those families are from the Chicago area, and they were excited to meet him.

He sat down for a meal with veterans, their loved ones and the families of those currently serving the country, in commemoration of their dedication. Outback Steakhouse sponsored the event.

"I get to go out and sing songs and just show up at events like this and just have a good time and get to meet some great people," McGraw said. "And it's because of what they do that allows me to do that."

The honorees hailed from Chicago, Highland Park, Elgin and Romeoville. Shrieks of excitement could be heard around the room when the families were told who their special guest would be.

McGraw got a chance to sit down and talk with them, and they did not leave the lunch empty-handed. The singer took photos with them and gave each soldier an autographed CD.

"I saw parts of coming back after Vietnam where it wasn't this nice," says Vietnam Marine veteran Tim Manning. "This is really nice that they remember people, we really appreciate it."

McGraw told FOX 32 News that he feels so honored that he was able to meet with these people personally, to thank them for their service.

He's performing at the Midwest Bank Amphitheater Friday night. Check him out if you can still get tickets!
