SUWANEE, Ga. -

A Gwinnett County restaurant owner now owns a piece of the history and a piece of the Berlin Wall.. The piece, which had been out in front of the Suwanee City Hall for the last few weeks, was auctioned late Saturday afternoon.

Ray Stanjevich, owner of the Friends Suwanee Grill franchise, placed the winning bid of $23,500. He says he is not sure what he plans to do with the 12-foot, 8,000-pound chunk of wall.

Stanjevich is originally from Serbia, moved to America and open three restaurants. He says he was interested in owning the piece and just came out to the auction to try for it.

The piece was seized by federal authorities and auctioned to help recover $7.3 million nearly 60 people lost in a Ponzi scheme in metro Atlanta.
