Police say a 31-year-old man was arrested after leading officers on a pursuit through Mesa on Thursday.

An officer saw Roberto Sanchez driving a Chrysler convertible with an expired license plate and attempted to pull him over near Alma School Road and Southern Avenue.

According to a police report, Sanchez refused to pull over and sped away.

Sanchez was followed by a Mesa Police helicopter and marked and unmarked police vehicles, but allegedly continued leading officers on a high speed pursuit.

Eventually, several unmarked undercover vehicles boxed in Sanchez's car and officers were able to get him to stop, a police report stated.

Several unmarked police vehicles were damaged during the pursuit, but no officers were injured.

Sanchez was found to have a suspended driver's license and four warrants for his arrest.

He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/dangerous instrument, unlawful flight from law enforcement, criminal damage, and driving with a suspended license.
