Steelers player Adams stabbed in robbery attempt

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police say an offensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers was stabbed twice during an attempted carjacking on the city's South Side district.

Police said 23-year-old Michael Adams told officers he was standing near his truck shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday when he was confronted by three men, one armed with a knife and one armed with a handgun.

Adams told police the trio tried to carjack him, but he didn't have his car keys. He said "the situation escalated" and one man pointed the gun at his face while the other stabbed him twice before all three fled, according to police.

Adams went into a nearby restaurant to seek help and was later taken to UPMC Mercy, where he had surgery for stab wounds to the abdomen and left forearm. Police said he is currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Adams tweeted: "I had an angel lookin out for me! I'll be ok just gotta fight to get back harder then ever."

He was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft and named the team's outstanding rookie, starting six of the 10 games in which he played.

Police said they were looking for suspects.

With the All-Star break over and the second half of the MLB season well underway, the New York Mets (46-52 as of July 20) and the New York Yankees (50-47 as of July 20) find themselves in the same situations each team is accustomed to at this time of the season. The Yankees are in the middle of the AL East Division title while the Mets are scrapping for every win possible to stay relevant in the NL East. But while the record says one thing, reality says another.
