Bear sightings reported across Alpharetta

Posted: Updated:

A bear is the talk of the town in Alpharetta after being spotted in neighborhoods, parking lots – even a busy intersection over the weekend.

Police said they received numerous calls about the black bear at various locations in Alpharetta and Milton from Friday through Sunday.

Several people said they got close to the bear. Joely Hernriquez snapped several pictures of the animal as it roamed across a parking lot on Deerfield Parkway.

"We got really close to it and then it like started coming towards us and I made eye contact with it and then I ran away because I got scared," Henriquez said.

Lindsey Robirds' mother took a picture of the bear running through the grass towards traffic.

Caitie Curdie was eating dinner with her dad when she took a picture of the bear as it climbed a brick wall.

Alpharetta e police estimate the bear is a cub about 16 months old. Authorities hope that since it was last seen in Milton on Sunday, the bear is making its way back home.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that young bears are typically searching for territory and it's usually better for to let them find it on their own.
