Baby born in amniotic sac

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A doctor in Greece photographed the delivery of a baby still inside the amniotic sac after it had been removed from the mother's body.

Dr. Aris Tsigris published the photo of the newborn on his Facebook page on March 12.

The baby was delivered via C-section.

This type of birth is extremely rare as typically the amniotic sac breaks on its own during birth. That moment is often referred to as the "water breaking."

The newborn was feeding off the placenta and began to breathe on its own once the placenta broke, according to Dr. Tsigris.
