JFK guards dozing in photos

New York Post New York Post
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

FJC security guards assigned to protect some of the most sensitive areas of Kennedy Airport were caught sleeping on the job. FJC said they're being shown the door, but a top counter terrorism expert said it is just one sign of a much bigger problem.

Photos taken by a former supervisor show guards who appear to be asleep while supposedly on duty and on the lookout for intruders and terrorists at JFK (NY Post photos). Stephen Jackson, the former FJC security supervisor who took the photos, said company officials ignored his complaints about their lack of performance.

FJC said it fired Jackson on May 29, 2013, and that he is a disgruntled ex-employee and not a whistleblower.

Juval Aviv, a counter terrorism expert, said this is a problem. He said these guards are neither properly trained not supervised and are just "warm bodies" put in important places.

The guards make less than $20 an hour with benefits, but sources told Fox 5 that the FJC contract with the Port Authority airports and facilities is worth about $100 million a year. The Port Authority said it will not tolerate poor performance and that "we immediately directed FJC to permanently remove from Port Authority premises the guards shown sleeping in photos and/or video as well as any other guards caught sleeping at our facilities."

Sources told Fox 5 that FJC's lucrative contract with the Port Authority is on the line, and that other companies are bidding for the business.

FJC said it has processes in place to ensure their employees do their jobs.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan gathered religious and city leaders with the focus of how to ease tensions between police and the community in advance of this Saturday's march to protest the death of Eric Garner. Some of the leaders in this group are rarely photographed together, let alone seated at the same table. But they were brought together over concerns about possible protest violence by the cardinal, one of the most powerful figures in the city and who commands respect across the board.
