A child died after being hit by an SUV while riding a bicycle last week in Garland.
The incident occurred Wednesday, June 12 at Country Club Road and Meridian Way in northeast Garland around 5:15 p.m.
Jaylyn Jackson, 12, died five days later from his injuries.
Police say the woman who hit him was not at fault, but still immediately stopped to help the unconscious boy.
"He was severely injured and I did what I could until the ambulance came," said Shirley Haney who is a nurse. She tried to minimize the bleeding and get him ready for treatment.
The boy's backpack and basketball were visible from Sky4 close to the SUV that struck the child.
There are no stop signs for several hundred yards on the street where the crash happened. The lack of skid marks indicate the driver wasn't speeding.
Officers don't think the boy was wearing a helmet as he crossed the street to Northlake Baptist Church to meet up with friends for a basketball game.
Even though the boy and his family were not members of the church, it hosted a memorial service for Jaylyn a week after his death.
