CAMP VERDE, Ariz. -

Deputies say they arrested a 22-year-old man who escaped while handcuffed and his mother, who picked him up afterward.

Miguel Jerry Zepeda fled from Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies on June 6 while still in handcuffs. He had already fled from authorities on two separate locations.

On June 7, deputies went to his mother's home in the 1800 block of Ash Lane, near Camp Verde, after getting a tip that Zepeda was there.

Deputies say they found out Zepeda's mother, 44-year-old Elizabeth Garcia, had left home with Zepeda and returned a few minutes later without him.

When deputies spoke with her, they say she admitted to dropping her son off near the river to keep him away from law enforcement.

Zepeda still wasn't found, despite additional searches of the Village of Oak Creek and Cottonwood.

Garcia was arrested on Wednesday for hiding prosecution.

During questioning, deputies say Garcia admitted picking up her still handcuffed son at a gas station on June 6 after he escaped.

Zepeda had already called her to get a ride out of the area before being put into custody.

Garcia told deputies Zepeda was hiding at a home in the 3100 block of Gold Drive and then she was taken to Camp Verde Detention Center.

Deputies say they went to the home on Gold Drive and Zepeda answered the door.

He allegedly resisted arrest, fled into the home and then ran out the back door.

After continuing to resist arrest, deputies say they were able to handcuff him.

He was taken to Camp Verde Detention Center and booked on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, littering, taking identity of another, escape, theft, aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, criminal damage, and possession of marijuana.
