A boy injured in a boating accident on Joe Pool Lake is battling infections and faces a long road to recovery.
Chase Edwards, 12, was at the lake with his mother on June 8 when the boat he was in collided with two others at night. Edwards was thrown into the water, run over and hit by a boat propeller.
Edwards suffered broken bones in his pelvis, ankle and thigh. He has cuts in his legs that are infected due to the lake water, which doctors are trying to control.
Doctors say the severity of Edwards' injuries will keep him at Children's Medical Center for at least six months.
Friends are trying to help Edwards and his family out.
Kim Hassell's son is friends with Edwards and has known the boy for years. Hassell is collecting money for Edwards' medical bills at her barber shop.
Edwards' father, Rob, has been by his son's side since the accident and is grateful for the help from people.
"All of my neighbors they're all offering small things like mowing my lawn which I won't let them do," said Rob Edwards.
Grand Prairie police say it's unlikely any charges will be filed in the case.
