The Dallas Police Association became the victim of a crime over the weekend when a large portable smoker was stolen from its parking lot.
The cooker, which is 20 feet long and designed to feed as many as 500 people at once, was locked up behind the DPA's headquarters Friday night.
Surveillance video showed two men in a truck cut the chains to the gate of the secure parking lot, hitch up the smoker and haul it off.
Police said someone reported the location of the suspects' truck after seeing pictures and video on FOX 4 and social media sites.
The two men were quickly arrested on unrelated warrants. They also admitted they were hired to steal the $15,000 unit for $500 and a small amount of drugs.
They told police they had already sold it to the owner of a BBQ business.
The smoker was recovered from the backyard of a house in the 2700 block of Carpenter Avenue in south Dallas.
The DPA calls it a powerful fundraising tool for the Assist the Officer Foundation, which works to help fallen officers and their families.
