The suspect shot in an officer-involved shooting with Irving police on Wednesday night has died.
Uriel Juarez, 44, died shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday from
multiple gunshot wounds sustained during a shootout with Irving police near
East Irving Boulevard and Loop 12.
Police said at about 7:45 Wednesday night, Irving police got a domestic violence call from a woman claiming that Juarez with a gun came into her house and threatened her and her children. When Juarez went to another part of the house his family was able to escape and call police.
She was able to give police a description of the suspect and his vehicle. Police found the SUV and pursued it.
The suspect turned onto Balleywood Road then into a driveway, got out of the vehicle and started firing at officers with an AK-47 rifle.
Two officers returned fire with AR-15's, shooting the suspect several times. No officers were injured in the shooting.
Witnesses said there were adults and children in the area when the shooting occurred.
"African-American man, pulling out, tried to run, loose bullets everywhere. Police got out, started shooting, one policeman got out and got his shotgun, bent down, shot him, he hit the floor. That's when the ambulance picked him up and put him in there. But from what I see the gentleman was trying to run but didn't get to escape so that's when the policemen started shooting at him," said Jennifer Matamoros.
The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice.
