Mesh Mask Bandit identified and arrested

Posted: Updated:

The bank robber known as the Mesh Mask Bandit has been identified and arrested.

FBI officials announced the arrest Friday afternoon of Luis Delagarza, 59, of Farmers Branch.

Delagarza is alleged to have robbed 19 area banks, but so far he only faces charges for an April 22 robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank in the 13200 block of Josey Lane in Farmers Branch.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25. Delagarza will remain in federal custody.

The break in the case, according to the FBI, came during the April 22 robbery when Delagarza was walking into the bank and put on his mask. A witness saw him before he put on the mask. He later removed his mask on his way out after the robbery and the witness saw his face again.

The witness was later able to identify Delagarza in a photo lineup.
