A Tarrant County couple is charged with animal cruelty after authorities say they burned three puppies over the weekend.
Police arrested Melissa Woodard and Chris Apala on Saturday. Both are from Fort Worth.
Michelle Woodard said her sister confessed that they had burned the dogs. But, she believes they were smothered first and also beaten with a metal rod.
"I walked over here to the bin to see if what she said was true and when I looked in they were like stacked in there," she said.
Michelle is a dog groomer and animal lover. She said she called 911 and turned in her sister because she felt like it was the only thing she could do.
"It's the right thing, justice. They didn't do anything wrong. They didn't do anything," she said.
From behind bars, Melissa said she didn't do anything wrong. She said the puppies were starving, and she had no idea where to turn.
Her boyfriend said the same. He also admitted hitting the dogs with a stick to kill them and burning their bodies.
He said it was the "humane" thing to do since the animals were suffering.
The couple faces three charges of animal cruelty.
Another dog was taken from the home and put up for adoption.
