NYPD dogs form honor guard for injured K-9

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A phalanx of NYPD police dogs formed an honor guard for a transit K-9 that was injured in the line of duty last week.

Bear, a six-year-old German shepherd was released from the Animal Medical Center on Manhattan's Upper East Side on Wednesday afternoon.

Bear was kicked twice in the mouth while assisting officers breaking up a subway brawl.  He sustained two cracked canines, two chipped teeth and a cut tongue when a woman being handcuffed attacked him. Officers were breaking up a fight between four women on a subway platform.

Bear's handler, Officer Vincent Tieniber, 36, said despite his injury, Bear kept the woman's foot in his mouth until she was handcuffed.

Ravenia Matos-Davis, 22, of Queens was charged with injuring a police animal, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
