'Summer Meals' Kick Off In Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:

Today, city officials kicked off the 2013 Summer Meals Program, which serves free, healthy meals and snacks to Philadelphia kids under 18.

Young people will be able to eat at more than one thousand locations that include recreation centers, parks, churches, community centers, and many other locations.

Officials at today's news conference said they have a personal connection to this important program.

"We need them even more today than we did, I won't say how many years ago when I used to have the free lunches, a few decades ago when I had those lunches," said Susan Slawson from the Department of Parks & Recreation.

The program serves breakfast, lunch and snacks from Monday through Friday until August 30th.
