Hometown Hero: Teen library volunteers

Posted: Updated:

As many as 25 teenagers are spending their summer at the Hampton-Illinois Branch Library.

They're members of the Teen Advisory Board and they love the library.

The young women and men started volunteering for college applications, but they've reached their hours and are still there. Why? Because they love keeping the books in order on the shelves, love giving library patrons information and love being part of this group.

Daneila Chavarria is one of the teen volunteers and said, "We're helping ourselves, we're growing up by helping other people these kids have matured so much by helping in the library."

The teens at Hampton-Illinois also love enrolling kids and adults in the Mayor's Summer Reading Club. There are great weekly prizes for reading books all summer long.

You can enroll in person at any Dallas Public Library and join the fun or go to www.dallaslibrary.org. FOX4 is a proud sponsor of the Mayor's Summer Reading Club.
