LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Wisconsin couple has been charged with endangerment for leaving their infant inside a car while they shopped at north suburban sex shop.

A "concerned citizen" called police about 3:40 p.m. on June 22 to report an unattended infant boy inside a car in the parking lot of Lover's Lane in the 1000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, according to a statement from Libertyville police.

Officers found the 9-month-old boy crying and "sweating profusely" in the car, which was not running and only had the windows rolled down about an inch, police said.

Jessica E. Hurley-Smith, 20; and Michael Cegers, 18, exited the Lover's Lane store and told officers they were the boy's parents and they'd left him in the car for 15 to 20 minutes while they went into the store, police said.

Paramedics took the infant to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was treated and released in good condition.

Hurley-Smith, of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; and Cegers, of Kenosha, Wis., were each charged with endangering the life or health of a child and released on $1,500 personal recognizance bonds, police said.
