Man turns himself in for Dallas burned body case

Posted: Updated:

One of the two men spotted in a murder victim's truck has turned himself in.

Dallas police said 27-year-old Victor Demetris Hill saw his photo on the news and voluntarily went to police headquarters.

He was charged with the capital murder of Dolores Gomez-Martinez.

Firefighters found the 24-year-old victim's burned body on July 2. They were putting out a small grass fire behind an Oak Cliff apartment when they spotted his remains in the bed of a creek on Illinois Avenue at Kiest Boulevard.

Police Gomez-Martinez was kidnapped, beaten, robbed and set on fire by Hill and two unknown accomplices.

Surveillance video from a convenience store on the day of the murder shows Hill in a white shirt and another man in the victim's stolen truck. They used his stolen credit card at the ATM, police said.

The truck was later found abandoned. It had also been burned.

Police said Hill denied involvement in the murder. However, a woman who showed up at police headquarters with him told detectives she witnessed part of the crime and he was involved.

Police still need help identifying the two unknown accomplices, once of which could be the man in the dark shirt in the surveillance video.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS. Anonymous tips are welcome.
