Balch Springs police saved a suicidal person Wednesday morning.
Police say Terrance Reed, 20 was sitting on the rail of Quail Bridge over 635. He called police around 6 a.m. on Wednesday and asked them to tell his grandmother good-bye for him.
When police arrived a short time later, they found Reed and said he appeared to be calm.
Moments later, Reed climbed to the other side of the rail and told police he wanted to finish a cigarette.
Then he let go of the rail, just as police moved in and grabbed him.
Police said they could tell Reed was serious about ending his life.
"[He] set himself up on the guard rail, which tells me this is who I'm out here for and he is actually contemplating taking his own life," said Raymond Keener of the Balch Springs police.
Police said they were also concerned about other drivers and police officers potentially getting hurt.
Reed was taken to Parkland Hospital after the incident for psychiatric evaluation. He suffered no other injuries.
