DeKalb woman thankful to be alive, tree slams into home

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A DeKalb County woman is thankful to be alive after a large tree came crashing down onto the southeast Atlanta home she's lived in for the last 35 years.

Sylvia Walden said she heard the sound of the tree cracking under the barrage of heavy rains and wind pushing through her Rollingwood Lane neighborhood in the overnight hours. The massive tree fell onto her car and truck parked in the driveway.

Luckily, she says, it didn't smash through the roof and into the bedroom where she slept.

"I want everybody to know that I'm blessed and highly favored, and I'm here to say that God is good because where that tree fell is where I was sleeping," Walden said.

One large tree came down across Hugh Howell Road in DeKalb County. The tree blocked the road and brought down power lines.
