Man attempts to cool swimming pool with 300 lb. block of ice
A Phoenix man was hoping to get the pool temperature a bit cooler on this 4th of July. So what did he do? He dropped a 300 pound block of ice into the pool.
If it works for a drink, why not the pool right?
Well, not quite.
The big block of ice melted away in about 40 minutes. He says the temperature in the pool did drop about 6 degrees during that time and it felt even cooler if you swam right next to it.
So where did he get the idea that this might work?
"Oh well, you know, there are days that are kind of slow at work and we are sitting around and I thought kind of like cooling off.. it's so hot out here. I Google searched block ice. I did it once growing up in Oklahoma and though I'd try it again," said Greg Fritts.
"It didn't last very long, but it was nice.. it was floating around on it, playing on it.. doesn't last long. but it was nice and cool," he added.
How much money melted away in the pool? Total with delivery and tip: $100 on his experiment.
