Ft. Worth fireworks show triggers grass fires

Posted: Updated:

Fort Worth's fireworks show had to be stopped on Thursday night when debris from the fireworks caused grass fires.

Officials with Extreme Pyrotechnics, who setup the show in downtown Ft. Worth, said some of the shells did not go as high in the air as they should have.

Debris from those shells falling to the ground caused the grass fires, which grew large enough that officials became concerned.

"I decided to shut the show down for safety reasons because there's a lot of people out here," said Mike Wagner of Extreme Pyrotechnics.

Ft. Worth firefighters worked to extinguish the grass fires and the show resumed after a 15-20 minute delay.

No one was hurt by the fires.
