Visitors swarm massive memorial during busy Prescott weekend

It was an emotional day for the people of Prescott.

Their hearts were heavy this weekend as they celebrated the Fourth of July and the town's Frontier Days.

The celebration was missing 19 brave men of their community, who were lost in the Yarnell Hill Fire.

This weekend is always a busy one in Prescott, but this year, in addition to those who come up for the Fourth of July and rodeo events, many paid a visit to the massive memorial outside Fire Station 7.

"Just to see the outpouring of support, it is really touching," said Nicole Garrett, memorial visitor.

Garrett has spent the past week in Prescott.

"We got in Sunday and a couple hours later the tragedy struck," said Garrett.

The memorial for the 19 firefighters wraps around the fire station.

Garrett left a note Saturday morning.

"I wrote 'Rest easy here, you will always be remembered here. God bless your families,' signed the Garrett family," said Garrett.

Fire departments from across the country have sent shirts to the memorial.

"My brother is a firefighter in Oregon and he is from Prescott, our whole family is, so it hit close to home," said Jennifer Chapman, memorial visitor.

Coming to the memorial can be tough, but while the emotions can be overwhelming, so is the support from this community.

"It is a tragedy, but yet everybody comes together as a community and that is what Prescott is about," said Chapman.
