Woman drowns Sunday on Lake Lanier

Posted: Updated:
LAKE LANIER, Ga. -

Officials say a drowning on Lake Lanier on Sunday made for the second fatality on Georgia waterways this Fourth of July weekend.

A spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources tells FOX 5 News that a woman was on a dock with her husband when she fell into the water. Neither could swim, but her husband jumped into the water to try to rescue her.

Both had to be pulled from the water. Emergency crews attempted to revive the woman, but were not successful.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.

This is the second fatality on a Georgia waterway. Earlier in the day on Lake Allatoona, a 52-year-old man died after falling from his boat and then being run over by the unmanned vessel. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
