Father of slain East Point officer wants justice

Posted: Updated:
EAST POINT, Ga. -

The father of a slain East Point officer is asking for help in finding his daughter's killer.

Joseph Parker said he wanted to enter the south Fulton County home where his daughter, Crystal, was found dead, but authorities wouldn't let them.

The home has been a crime scene since Cpl. Crystal Parker's body was discovered by her mother on Sunday night.

"She never called me Sunday. I was going her plenty of time to rest up and then the lead detective called me and told me he had bad news for me," said Joseph Parker.

Fulton County Police have not officially released the cause of death, saying it will take an autopsy to determine it. However, East Point Mayor Earnestine D. Pittman told FOX 5 that Cpl. Parker had been shot.

Joseph Parker confirmed that his daughter had been shot, but said he would not reveal anything else.  He said that he didn't want to jeopardize the investigation.

Crystal's father said that she was the youngest of seven children. Her twin brother is in the military. He said Crystal had a heart of gold.

"My daughter had a heart as big as that truck -- all you had to do was ask her for it. If you were homeless she'd give you a place to stay," said Joseph Parker.

Crystal Parker was a six-year veteran of the East Point Police Department, where she was named "Officer of the Year" in 2012.

Fellow officers wore black bands over their badges on Monday.

"She was intelligent, articulate, a smart woman, a tough police officer," East Point Police Lt. Clifford Chandler.

Crystal was seen as a rising star within the department. Now questions linger about why and how was she killed.

"I want the people who committed this crime, I want them caught. I want them punished to the fullest extent," Joseph Parker said.

Joseph Parker said that there had been a break-in at his daughter's home a few weeks ago, but it's unknown if it's related to her death.

An autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of Crystal Parker's death.

Funeral plans are pending.
