Wife shoots off-duty Irving officer

Posted: Updated:

An off-duty Irving police officer was shot late Tuesday by his estranged wife.

Officer Brandon Spencer was shot twice in his Mansfield home in southern Tarrant County. He went to a neighbor's house for help.

Investigators later found the officer's wife dead in a car in nearby Johnson County. She had apparently rigged a hose to the car's exhaust and taken some pills.

Officer Spencer is being treated for his gunshot wounds. They are not life threatening.

He has worked for the Irving Police Department for 18 years and is currently assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau.
