DFW Airport picks Virgin Australia exec for CEO

Posted: Updated:

The chief operating officer of the Virgin Australia airline will be the next CEO of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Sean Donohue will become CEO of the world's fourth-busiest airport in October, replacing the retiring Jeffrey Fegan. Donohue's hiring is subject to completing an employment contract, airport officials said.

Donohue is responsible for Virgin Australia's ground and flight operations, cabin crews, catering and safety systems.  He previously held several executive jobs at United Airlines including senior vice president of operations and vice president at the United Express regional airline.

Fegan announced in January that he would step down after 19 years as CEO.

DFW is dominated by American Airlines and its fellow AMR Corp. subsidiary, American Eagle. There are about 1,900 daily flights at DFW.
