Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro will host the 18th annual ‘Back to the Beach' weekend celebration Saturday night at Midland Beach.
The beach event has entertained thousands of people since 1995 and organizers say the nearly 50,000 people have attended over one weekend.
‘Back to the Beach', which is located at Father Capodanno Boulevard at Jefferson Avenue, is one of the largest scheduled events on the borough.
"Our Boardwalk may only be open in sections, but 'Back to the Beach' is back at Midland Beach this weekend with all the vendors, food, games, entertainment and fireworks you remember from years past," Molinaro said. "So, instead of fighting traffic to get to the Jersey Shore, save time and money enjoying family fun right here in your own backyard, because Staten Island is back for summer fun.
Molinaro said the popularity of the annual event has grown and noted back in 1995, the first 'Back to the Beach' celebration and drew 150 beachgoers and one vendor. In 2012, the event drew 50,000 visitors and more than 200 vendors.
