Lawmaker wants to remove Ed Koch from bridge name

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A Queens councilman is proposing legislation to have former New York City Mayor Ed Koch’s name removed from the Queensboro Bridge.

Just five months after his death, City Councilman Peter Vallone, Jr. (D-NY) is drafting legislation to return the bridge back to the Queensboro Bridge and name Manhattan's Municipal Building after Koch instead.

The bridge, which was built in 1909 to connect Midtown to Long Island City, was renamed the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge in 2011 to celebrate the former mayor’s 86th birthday.

Vallone told the Post: "My problem is not with Ed Koch," Vallone said. "My problem is with taking a bridge from the people of Queens."

The councilman helped residents in Queens circulate a petition against the bridge being named after Koch.

Things are looking up for cute little Cami King. Not only is her cancer in remission, she also just got to meet Mickey, Minnie and Elmo in Times Square. But, if you can believe it, there's something else this 4-year-old is even more excited about: Times Square is going gold. The chairman of the Times Square Advertising Coalition announced the crossroads of the world is going to light up in gold to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
