17 displaced after Arlington Heights apartment fire

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Seventeen people were displaced due to a fire in an apartment building Saturday in unincorporated Arlington Heights.

Firefighters responded at 3:27 p.m. to a report of smoke and possible fire in the utility room of the six-unit building at 2316 Nichols Rd., according to a release from the Long Grove Fire Protection District.

Three residents were treated and released at the scene, the release said. The American Red Cross assisted 17 residents with food and temporary housing that were displaced due to the fire, the release said.

There was extensive damage to utility room and apartments were ventilated to remove light smoke, the release said.

Electricity, gas and water were shut off to the building, the release said
