A North Texas non-profit is trying to raise money to build a Vietnam War Memorial at Arlington Veterans Park.
American and South Vietnamese veterans gathered at a fundraiser Sunday in Garland. It was organized by the Heroes of South Vietnam Memorial Foundation.
The event raised about $100,000 but the foundation needs another $150,000 to get construction started.
The hope is to provide continued education to future generations about the war.
Ultimately, they want to honor and remember the men and woman who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
"We have so many Vietnam veterans who live in the area. I think this is very important to all of us to never forget that war that been going on for so long," said Jennifer Nguyen with South Vietnam Memorial Foundation.
She said if the foundation can raise $700,000 thousand dollars by Thanksgiving, the memorial in Arlington could be completed by April.
