Twinkies make sweet return to store shelves in U.S. today

ATLANTA -

They're baaaaaaack. Dubbed "The sweetest comeback in the history of ever," Twinkies -- a favorite American pastime -- are back!

Many feared they'd eaten their final Ho Ho or Ding Dong when Hostess Brands announced it was declaring bankruptcy earlier this year.

Starting Monday, the Twinkie makes a welcome return to store shelves across the U.S. It's now manufactured by two companies, including Metropoulos & Co.; which also picked up CupCakes, Donettes, Zingers, Ho Hos, Ding Dongs, fruit pies and mini muffins.

Sadly, some Hostess Brands mainstays like Sno Balls aren't in production anymore.

But, the creme-filled, golden delicious Twinkies that many generations of Americans have grown up with are back. And, they're apparently here to stay a lot longer than their predecessors -- so to speak. This new batch of twinkies have a slightly longer shelf life.
