Convicted killer's execution date rescheduled again

Posted: Updated:
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -

The execution date for convicted murderer Warren Lee Hill has been rescheduled for July 19. Hill's more recent execution date -- his third -- was set for July 15.

The Lee County Superior ordered the Georgia Department of Corrections to carry out the
Hill's execution between July 13-20, 2013.

A Fulton County judge temporarily stayed Hill's scheduled execution for last Monday after the inmate's attorneys raised questions about a law prohibiting the release of information involving Georgia's execution drug supply.

This isn't the first time Warren Lee Hill's execution has been halted because of a challenge to the state's execution method. Last July, his execution was put on hold pending a challenge to the state's plan to change from a three-drug process to a single dose of pentobarbital.

The state Supreme Court later cleared the way for the execution, although it was halted anew so courts could consider claims that Hill is mentally disabled. That stay was lifted in April and the state rescheduled the execution for Monday.

Hill was convicted in 1991 for the murder of Joseph Handspike. If executed, Hill will be the 31st inmate put to death by lethal injection.

Commissioner Brian Owens has now rescheduled the date for July 19 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson at 7 p.m.
