NOGALES, Ariz. -

A Rio Rico man was arrested for attempting to smuggle almost 27 pounds of cocaine into the US and a Mexican National was arrested after trying to smuggle more than 12 pounds of meth into the US on Monday.

33-year-old Armando Gonzalez Barajas' car was referred for an additional inspection when he attempted to cross the border at the Port of Nogales.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say a narcotics detection canine alerted them to 10 packages of cocaine worth over $243,000 in the vehicle's dashboard.

29-year-old Victor Alfonso Payan-Beltran's car was referred for another inspection when he was crossing into the US through the Port of San Luis.

Thanks to a CBP narcotics detection canine, officers say they found 12 packages of meth worth $192,665 in the vehicle's frame and front bumper.

Barajas and Payan-Beltran were turned over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
