Murder suspect continues to argue for self-representation

PHOENIX -

Michael Crane, who's accused of killing a prominent Paradise Valley doctor and his wife, appeared in court Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Crane killed Glenna and Lawrence Shapiro. The couple was found bound, shot, and burned inside their home back in 2012.

He's also accused of robbing and killing a second man, Bruce Gaudet, in Phoenix.

Crane has been fighting to represent himself. But the judge has not agreed to that as of yet.

Wednesday, Crane was given five minutes to speak, where he claimed the court had no jurisdiction to file charges against him.

"This court is not a real government court and has no authority to interfere in my legal affairs," he said. "I therefore respectfully demand that you cease and desist with your present intervention."

A trial has been set for next july.
