Yarnell Hill residents brace for flash floods

Posted: Updated:
YARNELL, Ariz. -

The summer monsoon season is dealing another blow to residents -- already affected by the Yarnell Hill fire.

The wildfire put the area at a big risk for flash floods and now people who live there are preparing for the worst.

The wildfire that took the lives of 19 firefighters also stripped the land of its vegetation, which means heavy rain could cause flooding and rockslides.

"I've never laid a sandbag in my life until today," says resident Linda Buschman.

"We were not prepared for the amount of rain that came with that storm, no one was, we've never seen it flood like this."

Many are also concerned about leftover ash hardening in the rain, which could make it very difficult to clean up.
