CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

"The Man of Steel" is making money worldwide with box office sales expected to hit $620 million. And guess what? Most of the film was shot right here in Illinois out in Plano.

"The Dark Knight Rises" was also filmed here a couple of years ago. Crews were shooting all over The Loop.

And it's been four years since this "Transformers 3" was shot in Chicago. You may remember the action scenes with cars blown up, buildings destroyed, and parts of Michigan Avenue shut down for a few days.

The film offices in Chicago are buzzing and they love seeing the Windy City on the big screen. It creates jobs and big-time money.

"This is the best summer on record for the Illinois Film Office," says Betsy Steinberg, Director of the Illinois Film Office.

This summer, three movies and a number of television shows are being filmed in Chicago.

"We have 'Mind Games,' 'Crisis,' 'Trail,' 'Chicago Fire,' 'Chicago PD' and 'Sirens.' That's six episodes of television shows, which is a first for Illinois. It's all about jobs," Steinberg explains.

"‘Transformers' and ‘Jupiter Ascending' will generate in access of $50 million," Rich Moskal of the Chicago Film Office says.

Most of those shows will be shot on a new sound stage in a building near 15th and Western. That's part of the lure, along with a 30 percent tax credit from the state.

"And what we offer right now, is incredible value in terms of in terms of production structure the look of the city the talent---the cooperation and the tax incentive makes it that much more affordable," Moskal says.

The movie "Divergent," starring Kate Winslet is wrapping up this week. Production crews have been shooting in Chicago for two months.

Trailers, lights and a whole lot of action are going on around town---even on Lower Wacker.

"Jupiter Ascending" with Channing Tatum will be shooting scenes in Chicago until August and that's when Mark Wahlberg will be in The Loop shooting "Transformers 4."

Hundreds of people showed up for the first casting call for "Transformers." Extras spent a lot of time waiting, but at least they can say they were on the set with some of Hollywood's biggest names in Chicago.

Since 1980, 1,100 films and TV shows have been shot in Chicago, adding $2 billion to the economy.
