Police: Man Charged With Killing, Dismembering Transgender Lover

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

It's a story you first on FOX 29: The man seen in this exclusive video was hauled away in handcuffs in connection with a bloody scene found in a home in Philly's Strawberry Mansion section.

Police say the man cooperated and led them to another horrific discovery.

Once again we want to warn you the details of this story are disturbing.

Sources said 44-year-old Charles Sargent was charged with murder late Friday night, FOX 29's Omari Fleming reported from outside police headquarters Friday night.

Police say the victim in this deadly attack was his transgender lover, but Sargent is telling them they didn't know that a transgender lover was actually a man.

FOX 29 got exclusive video of the 44-year-old man who allegedly used an ax to chop up the body and dump it in an overgrown field near York Street and Sedgley Avenue.

Crime scene investigators rolled into the vacant lot Friday after arms, legs and a torso were found scattered in the brush.

Police say the suspect led them to the body parts. Sources say they believe the victim may have been a male prostitute.

The grisly discovery comes a day after police found pools of blood in the basement of the suspect's house on the 2100 block of North 32nd Street. It's less than a mile away from the field. Bloody sheets, gloves, duct tape and even bleach were all found at the home. Police also recovered what looked like a gun.

Detectives returned to the home Friday and left carrying a small bag of evidence. Neighbors said they were glad police arrested the 44-year-old man responsible for a house of horrors.

Sergeant has been arrested nine times before, twice for sexual assault, Fleming reported.

FOX 29 has learned that Sargent is officially charged with murder, abuse of corpse and possessing an instrument of crime. Authorities also approved a terroristic threats count for threatening his girlfriend, who saw him cleaning up the mess.
