10,000 honor fallen hotshots at 'Prescott Strong' benefit

Posted: Updated:

Three weeks ago, 19 lives were lost in the Yarnell Hill wildfire. The city of Prescott remembered the brave firefighters and honored them with a benefit concert Sunday night.

Almost 10,000 people showed up to Whiskey Row, supporting the communities of Prescott and Yarnell.

"I think it's just great, we've got this turnout today and music being played for them and all the benefits going on," says Prescott homeowner Jeff Cotter.

Arizona native Jordin Sparks kicked off the event with the national anthem, and in honor of the fallen firefighters, she sang Amazing Grace.

The event had a special honor tent featuring the 19 firefighters that lost their lives in the blaze.

People from across the state were happy to be able to celebrate their lives.

"It's heartbreaking, heartbreaking, heartbreaking but as sad and awful as it is, to see a group of people come together for their families and the community and the city of Prescott it's just amazing. It's awesome," says Alli Holladay.

And this Prescott Strong benefit is just another way that Yarnell homeowners are getting support and help.

"Everybody is, you know, feeling really good about the event. No one is losing focus of what it's all about," says volunteer Dave Michelson.

Today's benefit concert hoped to raise thousands of dollars to help these communities to start rebuilding and move forward.

Monday night -- Dierks Bentley will hold a benefit concert to support the fallen firefighters and the town of Yarnell.
