7 members of NYC family hurt in upstate crash

Posted: Updated:

WAWARSING, N.Y. (AP) - Police in upstate New York are looking for the driver of a vehicle involved in a crash in the Catskills that injured seven members of a Brooklyn family.

Ulster County sheriff's deputies tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that the driver was making at turn on state Route 209 around 5:40 p.m. Sunday when he drove into the path of a minivan in the town of Wawarsing, 80 miles northwest of New York City.

Deputies say the vehicles collided head-on.

Police say Israel and Miriam Tyberg, both 37, and their five children ranging in age from 4 to 14 were treated at Ellenville Regional Hospital for lower back injuries and facial cuts.

A 28-year-old man riding in the other vehicle suffered a back injury. The driver fled the scene.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
