Open to the public for less than a year, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is beating other venues around the world in sales and revenue.
The Barclays, home to the Brooklyn Nets and the site of concerts by Jay Z, Beyonce and Barbara Streisand, sold more tickets than any other arena in the United States for the first six months of the year, according to the trade magazine Pollstar.
Madison Square Garden, arguably the most popular arena in the world, sold 194K tickets compared to the Barclays which finish third worldwide with 657K tickets sold.
The arena ranked second worldwide in revenue with $46.9M.
Only the O2 Arena in London and Manchester Arena beat the Barclays in revenue.
"What's amazing is that it's all public transportation," said one local referring to the lack of a parking facility at the arena.
The Barclays opened in late September with a series of concerts by Brooklyn native rapper and mogul Jay Z.
