'Neighborhood fixture' killed in west Dallas

Posted: Updated:

Dallas police are investigating the shooting death of a man who many considered a fixture in the neighborhood.

Officers found 62-year-old Nathan Dotson's body inside his home in the 4100 block of Ladale Drive around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

A neighbor called police after hearing gunshots and seeing several men running from the house. Police said the home had been ransacked.

Those who live in the neighborhood described the victim as a person who was always helping others. They said he volunteered at a nearby church even though he wasn't a member.

One woman said he helped her fill out social security papers shortly before the shooting.
