CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Flipping a skateboard in parking lots is no big deal for Kyle Ayling. But don't kid yourself. Those moves don't come easy. They require a lot of practice.

Next week, this 22-year-old Starbucks barista faces a stiffer challenge: skateboarding from his hometown of Dyer, Indiana -- almost 300 miles -- to Cincinnati, Ohio. He plans to cover 60 miles a day for five days.

"I'm going to have a police escort all the way from Dyer until I get to the last point in Lake County into the next county, and then just kind of take it from there," Ayling explains.

Ayling has been skateboarding for 11 years. His longest trip? 12 miles to Munster, Indiana and back.

He says he's taking on this challenge to show that people can do just about anything, if they set their mind to it.

"If you can see anything up here, you can make it happen in the real world," says Ayling. "Just by saying, you know, I want to do something bad enough, and then just kind of follow the path."

The path to Cincinnati will avoid the expressways, with his father trailing behind in case there's an emergency. His regular Starbucks customers think he can pull it off.

"I think he's a bit crazy," Karla DeBoer says of Ayling's trip. "If it was my son, I'd be like,' oh, no!' But, I think he's energetic, and positive, and he'll do really good at what he wants to accomplish."

"I think he has an idea and a goal of what he wants to accomplish and he's going to accomplish it," Art DeBoer adds.

Ayling also hopes he'll get a little attention for a new product he's pushing--a grip tape that helps skateboarders get a better ride. As to setting a world record for skateboarding journeys, Ayling said he's never checked the records.

But, we did.

7,550 miles, from Switzerland to Shanghai.

"Really? I got a lot of catching up to do," he says. "That'll be my next trip then."

Ayling says he chose Cincinnati because he wanted to cover at least 250 miles, and he wanted to go through Indianapolis on the way.
