We're about a month away from the start of school and the 17th annual Mayor's Back to School Fair is next week. Today dozens of Dallas parents made sure their children will have a spot. Dozens lined up to pre-register at Cobb Field house, including Felecia Bell and Ashley Jones.
"It's very expensive," said Felecia. "You have to but school shoes, uniforms, and making a minimum wage job, it's hard."
Each year thousands flock to Fair Park for the one stop shop for school supplies, health screenings, hair cuts and other social services.
"(My kids) probably wouldn't get the majority of their stuff." said Ashley. "So it's good to have stuff like this.
Especially because it's going to be even more expensive to send kids back to school. A study found school supply prices jumped an average of 7.3 percent this year. That same study found supplies for an elementary student will cost nearly 600 dollars for the year.
Saturday was the last day to pre-register but you can sign up at the fair. It's on August 1st at Fair Park from 8 a.m. to noon. You will need proof of income and proof of residence.
