Mom says Kidd Kraddick made her sick son smile

Posted: Updated:

Longtime radio host Kidd Kraddick used his charity to bring joy to many people, including one North Texas mother who recently lost her son.

Krissandra Malone's son Kris was one of Kidd's Kids in 2004. Since 1991 the Kraddick Foundation has focused on giving terminally ill and physically challenged children an all-expense paid trip to Disney World in Florida.

Kris had cancer of the tongue. His mom said she will forever owe the smile on his face during the trip to Kraddick, who actually pulled a few strings to get them in after the deadline had passed.

"He'd been in remission since 2002. But in 2004 he was re-diagnosed," Malone said. "Thank you. Thank you for making a single mother's dreams for a child who persevered through so many adversities."

Malone's emotions sound raw because she buried Kris in March and now she's mourning another loss.

"He did a lot for us," she said. "When somebody sacrifices just to give joy from their trials… that is a legacy."

Kraddick died while attending a golf tournament in New Orleans to raise money for his charity. Organizers of the event said they raised $16,000 for Kidd's Kids and they're still counting some of the money.

A spokesman for the Kraddick Foundation said Kidd's Kids will continue despite the death of its founder.
